Using the Search Form

Search Each field on the search form is followed by a search window, in which the term you wish to search is entered.

Operators

Search operators may operate by default, or you may choose them by clicking on the radio buttons which appear below the field search windows. They include:

AND finds all records which contain both terms

OR finds all records which contain either or both terms

AND WORD finds all records which contain all entered terms.

OR WORD finds all records which contain each or all terms.

Operators
If you want to search by keyword, simply enter a word (if there is only one) or enter two or more words separated by a space. Please note: that there is currently no adjacency searches.

Double Arrow button

This double arrow button located at the end of the DONOR, REGION / COUNTRY, or SECTOR search window indicates that multiple terms can be selected for this field.
* To select a Range of terms hold down the Shift-key and click on the first and last search terms within the desired range;
* To select search terms not in a range hold down Crtl-key and click on the search terms desired;

Arrow button

This single arrow button located at the end of the search window indicates that a pop-up index exists for this field. To enter a term:
* click on the search window to pull up the index;
* scroll down to find the desired term;
* click on the term.

Submit Search button

Tells the computer to begin the search.

Clear button

Clears the search form so that a new search can be conducted.

Searching on two or more fields

. The default operation between fields is AND
EX: Donor CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY and Sector POLICY ADVICE will find all records containing the terms CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY and POLICY ADVICE.

* The default operation within fields is OR
EX: Sector EDUCATION, FAMILY PLANNING will find all records containing EDUCATION or FAMILY PLANNING.

Using Hypertext links to find more records

After you have used the search form to find a set of records, you can use hypertext links to find related records in the database.

On the full display format, anything italicized is a hypertext link.

Clicking on the link will provide you with other records in the database related to the term.
EX: You obtained a list of POLICY ADVICE abstracts for CIDA. You are then interested in seeing what other abstracts are available from other donors. By clicking on POLICY ADVICE, in the abstract, a list of all POLICY ADVICE abstracts will be generated.

Printing and Saving Results


Printing

You can print the results of your searches by using the browsers print facility from either the File Menu or toolbar button.

Saving to file

You can save the results of your search from the browser's File Menu - Save As function. Note: saved files are in either plain text or HTML format. Some word processors are able to import HTML files preserving the file's format as seen on the Internet.
